European Distance and E-Learning Network – EDEN
Who are we?
EDEN is the smart network for the professional community and a professional community for smart learning.
The European Distance and E-Learning Network exists to share knowledge and improve understanding amongst professionals in distance and e-learning and to promote policy and practice across the whole of Europe and beyond. With more than 200 institutional members and over 1200 members in the Network of Academics and Professionals (NAP), EDEN assists a wide range of institutions, networks and individuals to become involved in professional information and networking activities. It does so through the organisation of acknowledged European conferences, its publications and information services, and by taking an active role in a wide range of important EU projects. EDEN has also proved successful with thematic activities such as the Open Classroom Working Group (school level distance education), and by contributing to, and promoting, ‘cutting edge’ research in the field. In addition, EDEN has also provided extensive secretarial support to the European Journal of Open, Distance and E-Learning (EURODL).
EDEN is open to institutions and individuals dealing with e-learning, and – more broadly speaking – open and distance education. As a key asset, EDEN has a strong and active membership. By joining EDEN you become part of the largest, most dynamically developing professional community of experts and practitioners of electronic distance education representing 55 countries and over 430 institutions from Europe and other continents.
Providing versatile expertise, the Association embraces all levels of formal and non-formal education and training.
Why we are participating in the project
EDEN thrives to support the
- acquisition of relevant and high quality skills to promote employability,
- recognition of skills to promote mobility,
- expansion of high quality and innovative teaching practices.
EDEN has got a leading role in the open education movement: regularly participates in the Open Education Week, its original initiative is the European Distance Education Week (EDLW), and took part in several projects related to the open education movement. EDEN realised that one of the main barrier to the more widespread use of open educational resources is the lack of a mechanism to credential and recognise the skills acquired through informal learning. It also prohibits mobility. EDEN will bring in its expertise in open badges gathered in the past years by being an issuer and promoter of open badges and is a strong partner for dissemination activities.
Our role in the project
EDEN contributes to the project using its own strength: collection and dissemination of concepts and results through its own channels, organisation of workshops embedded into its conferences, performing surveys on selected topics, editing and publishing research results.
More specifically, EDEN contributes to the
- analysis and modelling of Micro-Credentials in Europe by Identifying types of micro-credentials and creating a typology of micro-credentials;
- designing and performing surveys;
- scenario building of Micro Credentials in Europe;
- creation of a Recognition-Framework for Micro-Credentials.
- Performs Interviews key stakeholders & decision-makers
- organises and participates in workshops with International experts;
- reviews results of the proposal for a ‘Credit Supplement`
- participates in public consultation on Meta-Data Standard
- participates in the development of the Quality Assurance and contributes to quality reporting.
Our Team
Dr. András Szűcs
Dr. Andras Szucs is the Secretary General of EDEN since 1997. He is also the EU consultant and former director of the Centre for Learning Innovation and Adult Learning of the Budapest University of Technology and Economics since 2000. He has BSc, MSc in bio-engineering and a doctoral degree in chemical engineering from the same university. He also has a post-graduate diploma in environmental engineering.
dr. Ferenc Tátrai, PhD
Ferenc Tátrai, PhD is a senior consultant of EDEN since 2013, and a retired associate professor of the Budapest University of Technology and Economics (Hungary). He has MSc and PhD in chemical engineering from the same university and MA in applied mathematics from the University of Sciences Lóránd Eötvös (Hungary).
Linda Citterio, PhD
Linda Citterio joined EDEN I n 2020, where she is in charge of membership coordination, contribution to applications for European projects and operational support organising virtual and face-to-face events.
Kriszta Mihalyi
Krisztina Mihalyi is a teacher in mathematics (MSc), holds a BSc degree in economics and a BA (Hons) in European Business Administration. Presently pursuing PhD studies in education on how to use animation creation as a learning tool. She has been involved in various European projects related to the issue of innovation in education and was the Hungarian national coordinator for the CEDEFOP Training of Trainers’ Network between 2005 and 2007.
Kinga Szokolay
Kinga Szokolay works for EDEN since March 2017 as office assistant and since 2018 January as project assistant. She has an English BSc diploma in Sociology from the Corvinus University of Budapest.
Krisztina Tatrai
Krisztina Tatrai works as communication coordinator for EDEN since 2015. She has an English language and literature and English language teacher MA degree from Károli Gáspár University of the Reformed Church in Hungary.
